With Mother's day around the corner I'd like to share with you my experience as a mom so far. My Children are soon to be 5, 2 1/2 and 7 months. Life in our house is hectic to say the least. From cars crashing into the walls to balls being thrown to lego pieces magically appearing in my fridge to kids fighting over dad's iphone; being a mom certainly has its interesting moments. I have yet to master this mom gig, in fact I am pretty confident in saying this: motherhood will always be a learning experience!
I look back to life 5 years ago. Kid free, anticipating our mini human to make his appearance. Life was good! My husband and I traveled, we ate at whatever restaurant we wanted (never checking if it was kid friendly) never thought twice about abandoning our house for the weekend to take a spur of the moment road trip. having kids changes your life events. You will definitely think twice before doing ALL of the above with a child, especially 3!
We have since traded European adventures for all inclusive family friendly vacays, weekend road trips to children activities of swimming and soccer, weddings for kid parties and gourmet meals to quick family friendly fare.
Being a mom is certainly the most rewarding yet challenging job on the planet. There's days I'm so sick of hearing my own voice and days I just want to crawl in a ball and change my name from "MOM!!!" I'm sorry mom's not here right now, check back in an hour! You know that 5 minutes of peace and quiet in the bathroom without an audience is like dreaming about winning the lottery.....it never happens. Peace and quiet is overrated anyways!
I have also learned that the best conversations happen in the car! Seriously though! I hear all about my kids dreams, what and who they plan to play with that day, what excites them, what they're looking forward to, what their friend did, what their teacher says and what their future job/jobs or super hero gig will be.
I will tell you though no matter how hard or challenging a day may be, if your little beings turn around and blurt out randomly: "mom I love you," your heart immediately melts, when you snuggle to watch a movie or read a bedtime story to the little sleepy whisper of goodnight; being a mom is totally worth every waking moment and to be honest I wouldn't trade this mom "gig" for anything!
Can't you see why?? My 3 little munchkins are just too cute!
To all the mom's out there, with Mother's day approaching I hope you get a moment to put your feet up, read a book, watch your favourite show, sip some tea or coffee and just have a peaceful five minute break from the ever changing mom role. You deserve it!
